[OOC : From Academy - Taking The Holy Cat To The Cat People]
Jewel took two steps clear of the mist and looked around. She was standing in woodland and it was hard to see anything beyond a few trees.
I suppose that the house itself must be in the middle of the place, she thought.
She looked back for the others to emerge. |

Yarrow was the next to come through the mists and Dr Jewel had the strange experience of seeing the slightly bent sillouette of an old lady pushing a shopping trolly, shimmer and shift as she came through the mist. When Yarrow stepped out on the other side she was still a disreputable looking old lady but now she was carrying a wicker basket over one arm, filled with wrapped packages.
Yarrow gave her a roguish wink and said:
"Mustn't frighten the horses, dontcha know." |

| "Wish I could do that." Jewel was envious. |

Yarrow looked gratified.
"Well p'rhaps you can learn, dearie," she suggested. "After all, it's all ecto-wossnot isn't it?" She nodded at Dr Jewel and her eyes tracked towards the doctor's satchel. "With the right help you'd prob'ly be better at it than most of the folks you meet around here." |

As Michael appeared through the mist Pietro jumped down from his arms. He at least seemed to have no doubts that this was a worthwhile place to explore.
Michael noticed Yarrow's change of appearance and smiled. Perhaps the fact that the habit he wore had remained unchanged in design for centuries might be some advantage in this odd new world. |

"Well, let's not all stand about lallygagging," Yarrow said. "The house is this way..."
Taking the lead she set off through the woods. |

Jewel followed he through the trees, blinking when they reached the edge of the wood.
"Forget reconstructions." She said softly. "This is the real thing."
She looked from the workers in the fields to Aldersley Manor itself and shook her head silently from side to side.
"What some of my colleagues wouldn't give to be here." |

Michael too stared in wonder. The aspects of the view seemed familiar, as if he had seen them in photographs or on film. Hearing Dr Jewel's words he said to her,
"You seem to be familiar with this place. Where and when do we appear to be?" |

It was at this point that Jewel's gaze hit the zeppelin.
"I would have said eighteenth or nineteenth century England." She said quietly. "But that air balloon means I'm wrong."
She looked at it for a few moments.
"It's a pity." She finally said. |

Trudging along behind Yarrow, the group approached the front door.
"Do we just walk in, like at the Museum or Jones' or do we knock like at Miss Holloway's house? I mean, it's a little bigger than Jones'. Is it a public building?" |

"We knock or use the bell." Jewel demonstrated and then stood back. "I would expect there to be a butler for a house like this."
She waited. |

Dr Jewel's demonstration was successful enough as a demonstration if not in actual fact a success in either knocking or ringing. It was Yarrow who stepped up and hauled on the bell rope and, a short time later, a butler appeared at the door.
"Tradesman's entrance round the back," he said, his supercilious gaze drifting across the party. Then he moved to shut the door.
"Oh dearie me," said Yarrow, shoving a foot forward to hold the door open. "Mercy my and lawks. I'm just a humble peddler 's true but these fine folks are front door people if ever I saw them. The lady is an academic of 'siderable distinct'on. This chap here runs a museum and Father Michael here is in holy orders."
She fixed the butler with a gimlet-eyed gaze and added:
"The doctors here met Lady Violetta Kingsley in a pub not far away and wanted to assure her lovin' fam'ly that she's sound in body if a bit cracked in the head. And I've come with 'em to 'ave a word with a chap called Knotreaver who's visiting her ladyship... Now be a nice chap and let her know we're here..."
[ooc: Christie (who owns this patch) is currently off-line so this thread may procede a little slowly. I'm also offline from tomorrow but will signal Yarrow's actions in the Official Absence thread before departing. Sorry for the inconvenience.] |

| Dr. Odom ran a practiced hand inconspicuously down his front, making sure his tie and lapels were straight and his watch chain hanging properly. The butler, he thought, dressed and acted a lot like all lesser Curators had looked to him in his own childhood. |
