[ooc: From The Red Fort: 'Smight is Not Pleased']
From the mists to the north came a massive man clad in red armour and mounted on an immense red horse. Ten foot soldiers of equal stature followed.
The man looked at the golden city and said out loud.
"I recognise this."
The foot soldiers waited.
"This is that cursed Chantry," Smight announced. "It is a place of Book and Babble."
The foot soldiers cursed, automatically. They were aetheist, as were all the legions of the Red Fort. Churchs were anathema to them.
"We will go to the Chantry," Smight decided. "Beware of the bells and smells of the cursed Believers." |

The golden city had no defensive walls, to Smight's contempt. What walls there were had been broken by gates and arches, so that he and his ten men were able to march straight in.
Once inside however, they were faced with another problem. The city was not arranged in the grid-like pattern of the fort camp, but radially. Smight could not admit to any uncertainly about their direction and so the men tropped on for some time.
During this period the citizens made haste to move out of their way and several black-robed priests whisked themselves away even faster. |

Eventually the group came upon a long curved street which Smight thought he recognised. Although this had happened several times during their travels, this time he was correct, because ahead of the soliders rose the unmistakable shape of a church.
Smight turned his head and spat, and the soldiers followed suit. Much as he would have liked to take his swords and lay waste to this whole place, the sight of a red-robed figure ahead gave him pause.
"I will speak to that man," he declared. "You men, wait here."

A little later Smight returned from his conversation with the red-robed priest. His men had watched in awe, knowing that their leader was mighty indeed if he could escape the verbal traps priests laid to catch you in nets of belief.
"I have returned," Smight announced and pointed at the cringing fellow at his side. "This is a guide."
The men waited.
"We go south," Smight added. "To rescue the man called Karl Groever." Turning to the guide he boomed: "Start walking south."
The man obeyed, the stiffness of his back and the set of his neck showing his wariness of having Smight and his ten men following behind them. The group moved at a fast pace through the city in as much of a southerly direction as the winding streets would permit.
Suddenly Smight shouted out loud:
"You there. Stop!"
The guide froze in place. It took him a moment to realise that the instruction had not been directed at him but at an otherwise nondescript man dressed in grey clothing. |

| The man in grey did indeed stop, and turned to Smight. His expression was more of curiosity than the fear that Smight usually induced. |

Smight recognised the man in grey as an example of what he most abhored. Priests were nothing compared to this atrocity. The Unbeliever prefered not to say the word of what the creature was and used another word instead.
"Halt, Dog," he said advancing on the grey man and unsheathing one of his two red swords, levelling it so that it pointed at the man's throat. "Smight knows you for what you are, accursed spawn of spirits. Smight will kill you where you stand if you do not obey his command."
The ten armed men following Smight lanced at each other in puzzlement wondering who Smight meant by 'he'. It certainly didn't seem to be the guide who was backing silently away like a cat retreating from water.
"Smight commands this," the Unbeliever announced, seeing his troop's confusion. "Take us to Karl Groever now, dog!" |

The man in grey seemed slightly surprised.
"Erm, well, OK, if that's what you want. Follow me."
He indicated towards the nearby mists. |

Pleased with the effect of his words, Smight gestured his men forward and they followed the grey man into the mists.
As they vanished into apparent nothingness the guide gaped and then took to his heels, running as fast as he could back towards the Chantry. |
