Dr Kirby was busily putting together a field kit. He'd got himself a 4x4 off-road vehicle, a prototype military Jeep which had undergone extensive modification, including an atomic power plant. With room for just the driver and one passenger up front, the rear of the vehicle was one big supply locker. The frame of the jeep held one or two surprises of its own.

In the back of the jeep was a portable maintainance bay for the powered armour, including an array of swappable modules. There was also a field laboratory - Kirby had hated relying on rough methods, and if proper analysis of this arrangement of worlds was to be conducted, he'd need proper equipment.

Under the passenger seat there was a briefcase containing a range of currency. He'd had his research staff work on this, and they had produced samples of currency from a range of currencies, in a range of years. In most cases, they were replicas, but convincing ones. The possibility that this was in fact forgery had occured to him, but needs must.

A trunk held some changes of clothing. It would be impossible to put together a range as comprehensive as the currency, but he hoped he'd put together something that would not attract too much attention.

For travel, he wore his Defenders uniform. It was lightweight, practical, and above all bulletproof. He thought that a uniform might, in some ways, allow him to fit in than civilian dress. After all, who was intimately familiar with military uniforms of other countries?

He drew sidearms from stock, pistol and rifle equivalents to the repulsors in his suit, in addition to conventional weapons. These he locked away in the rear of the vehicle. He hoped very much they would not be required, but Von Damme was out there somewhere...
