Liason stood in the dim light, one hand on the hilt of his sword, half-expecting to be attacked.
"You cannot imprison our customers !" he shouted into the darkness.
"Not a customer. A spy."
"You are in no position to draw such conclusions. You do not understand the culture of these people." Liason raised his arms in a gesture of appeal to reason, "They could be valuable allies. May I remind you we are still trapped here. Without allies, we are unlikely to escape !"
"You serve us. We make policy. Do as we say."
"I am not giving you orders," Liason lowered his voice with an effort, "I am offering you advice. These matters have been carefully studied by me - I do not lightly seek to sway your policies."
"Explore."
"Yes, I will do so," Liason turned and began to walk from the room, still wary of the flashing blade or gunshot that would mark a change of heart and end his life. "Whilst I am away, prepare the weapons I requested for our allies. That might go some way towards reparation for our rudeness towards the Lieutenant."
"We must escape entrapment."
Liason sighed to himself as he returned to the surface. It could be such hard work explaining the most basic things. |
