Now but a step behind Liason, Captain DeRainault stepped through the mist and looked about her expectantly. This was her first opportunity to see the place herself, although she had received reports from both Lieutenant Stafford and the Doctor. From a distance, she noted the impressive fortifications and fortress towers. Rather grand for a munitions factory, but she also recalled that the Ambassador had mentioned it being used as a diplomatic facility as well.
Sensing movement closer to the buildings, DeRainault strained to make out what it was - odd shaped outlines - scouts or defenses of some kind, perhaps? Whichever, it was probably best that they moved on before they were spotted, as *this* was not the time to begin the raid. In any case, she was eager to get back to her ship. Pausing for acknowledgment by the Ambassador, DeRainault turned north almost as once, and began moving to the northern barrier of mist, with Habakkuk right behind her.
Just at the edge, where the water lapped at her feet, the Captain removed one of the small cylindrical flares and lit it, being careful to cast it on the northern side of the mist. The colored flash was an unmistakable sign to the crew of the Justice, and in due course, a launch, crewed with sailors, and containing Lieutenant Staves, Midshipman Bayfield, and Midshipman Langford, arrived at the southern shore.
"Captain!" The Second Lieutenant looked positively relieved. "It's good to see you ma'am - we've had quite a number of strange types pass through since you left this morning - and then Mr. Stafford returned with word of your encounter with the pirates - we were quite concerned." She stopped, out of breath.
"Well, Staves, I've no doubt that everyone comported themselves admirably." The Captain's smile was indulgent, and relieved to be back where she belonged. "But now, there are important matters - you will no doubt remember the Ambassador L'Iason. " she gestured at the tall man standing next to her "He requests our assitance, and I must back to the ship, on the double, to raise some volunteers." Staves nodded, the party piled into the boat, and were soon away.
[Captain DeRainault has now left the Imperial Foundry patch, and proceeds to the HMS Justice patch.] |
