Wondering about the nature of the mist which stilled the land, Arnora passed through onto the better behaved (but much less interesting) grass.
As she did so she noticed that it was not only the ground which was markedly different on this side of the mist. Almost like a root...
She turned to observe her companions arrival. Hopefully they had more of an idea where they were, the land had changed much since she had last travelled above ground. |

This was...unexpected. As unexpected, indeed, as his first transitional journey had proved. The place the place in the distance appeared to be a public house. Who would choose to locate a hostelry at the edge of the strange shifting forest, Karl wondered. Or, perhaps, he mused, this place was not nestling at a boundary at all, but some other 'when' altogether. All that he had experienced thus far prepared him at least to entertain this otherwise outlandish notion.
Clearly, the exterior of the inn was antiquated - something like those of the time of the Old Regime. Yet, it was oddly unfamiliar at the same moment. At the least, the place looked to be dry. And his companions were still with him. Karl was growing grateful for the small mercies. His pepperbox remained grasped, but momentarily forgotten, in his right hand.
(OOC: Edited by Rhi at the request of Lee to remove a continuity error. This thread is taking place in farmland some distance from the pub itself. Please change threads to the 'public bar' thread when entering the pub.) |

Kao Sheng stepped through the mist a moment after Karl. Looking around at the new terrain, he appeared unsurprised at the change, and, indeed, nodded approvingly.
"O honoured companions, it now falls to this person to state that these are the lands of the dedicated and respectable Jones, who has most generously consented to establish his holdings as a place where travellers may meet and request lodging and refreshment," he said. "This humble individual now suggests that should you choose to accompany him to the buildings which are now visible, you may find not only those services which have already been mentioned, but also a little of the great wealth of information which this unfortunate person is, to his great regret, unable to provide even to his current distinguished audience."
So saying, he led the way towards the main building. The walk seemed surprisingly short, perhaps due in no small part to the greatly increased speed that could be sustained in the absence of wild undergrowth and deep mud: Indeed, just a small number of minutes later the group was able to approach the main door of the Public Bar.
Kao Sheng stepped up to the door, and knocked politely.

A minute passed in the cool evening air and then the door was swung open inwards on well-greased hinges, revealing a small lobby leading into the public bar. Leaning against the open door a young girl regarded the travellers with an expression of condescension. She was dressed like a boy with her hair cropped short, and wore a sword at her hip.
"It's a pub," she said flatly. "You don't have to knock. You just come in and start ordering whatever it is you want. And yeah, welcome to Jones' public house, purveyor of fine wines and spirits etcetera etcetera etcetera..."
She raised her eyebrows expectantly.

Kao Sheng bowed formally.
"Please forgive this entirely unpresentable individual for disturbing your dignified household at this unseemly hour," he said, apparently unconcerned by the fact that it was still early evening. "He has the considerable honour of being accompanied by two exceedingly respectable persons, who having but recently arrived in this area may, he supposes, be to some extent uncertain as to the change in circumstances which fate has cast in their path. Therefore, with the sincere intention of rendering them what assistance lies within his power to provide, this inadequate and unworthy traveller presumes to seek, on their behalf, an interview with your most refined and versatile father, that he might consent to impart to them some fraction of his incomparable wisdom." |

Jane Jones' hazel eyes went round during this speech but by the end of it she had recovered her composure.
"Dad's at the bar," she said. "Um, come in." Holding the door open she stepped aside.
