Just outside the public house, Captain DeRainault paused for a minute to confer with her crewman, Habbakuk. Having assured that both he and she were armed and ready for potential trouble, and having also briefly consulted her compass in the light from the front windows, she was prepared to leave the area.

No more than five minutes after the Captain, followed by her crewman, had passed through the wall of mist to the west she returned, looking somewhat put out. Moving quickly, DeRainault and Habbakuk approached the inn, and then circled around as before, but this time going past the kitchen gardens to the back of the building. This door, DeRainault believed, should correspond to the one leading onto the corridor to the saloon bar, which she had seen on her last visit.

True to prediction, the door did lead onto the appropriate corridor, and as the young Miss Jones had so loudly declared, DeRainault did not knock, but simply entered and made her way back to the saloon bar. Reflecting that this was in fact the second time that she had left the public house only to return minutes later upon finding that the world had reordered itself, the Captain wondered if the place itself might have something to do with the phenomenon. 'I shall ask the Doctor,' she thought, as she pushed on the door.

[Liason arrives from the Saloon Bar]

Bowing to Captain Isobel as he begins his journey, Liason turns and runs to the East. His long stride covers the ground swiftly, but he is not sprinting - he will have to maintain his pace for many miles and cannot afford to tire early.

Keeping a weather eye out for the signpost she had passed on her way to the map room - was it only this morning? Captain DeRainault led the way from the public house to the main road, with Habakkuk close behind her. Just before reaching it, she made out the shadow of the post in the faint light of the stars, it now being long since moonset. Quickly reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a match, and having lit it, cupped it in her hands for the few moments necessary to determine which direction the sign arrow pointed. East, same as it had this morning, although the public house had distincly been to the west when she returned to it. Curious, indeed, but she had no other marker to follow, at this stage. Another match, another moment - this time to verify direction against her compass, and the Captain and company were off to the east, continuing to the wall of mist that rose up near the end of the road.
