Pausing for a minute half way up the stairs Arnora considered what to do. The public bar seemed to be full of men she easily identified as sailors but whose sailors was a little harder to tell. She knew very little about what she should expect this Captain Isobel to be like. But a captain would do as a beginnning.

She caught sight of Jones' daughter looking dreamily after a man who swaggered off over to the fire and then headed out of a door she believed headed for another bar.

Slightly uncertainly Arnora stepped down the rest of the flight of stairs and headed over towards the fire place.

"I would appreciate it if you could direct me to your Captain.." The resulting expressions ranged from somewhat stunned to speculative and knowing. Probably not Captain Isobel then but someone...

It was Kerry who answered, she'd noticed the tall blonde woman watching the bar. She must have seen Magpie, so presumably she didn't know who he was. Or who they were.

"Indisposed, I'm afraid. But we're from a free ship, and it's a free house here - you can talk to any of us."

"Captain's in the inn, rest assured. Only a matter of time. But what's your business?"

Jones leant on the bar top and surveyed the room-full of pirates. Arnora's slender figure was all but swamped by flouncing shirts and swashbuckling boots and daggers bristling from right, left and centre. The publican kept an eye on her just in case, although the young woman had seemed capable of taking care of herself thus far.

He hoped he hadn't made a mistake getting Jane to show Larkin upstairs. But he hadn't liked the look the Pirate Captain had been giving his daughter and while she might be annoyed at having to spend time with that young vagabond, at least she was unlikely to run off with him. Or so he hoped, sometimes it was impossible to predict what Jane would do next.

The pirates all seemed occupied with their current drinks and Jennifer was making up platters of food in the kitchen. With a last glance to check that all was as it should be, Jones crossed through the private door that separated the public bar from the saloon bar.

ooc: Jones moves to the saloon bar by means of the door at the back of the closed bar area. He can be summoned back into this thread by rapping on the bartop.

Arnora considered her reply. She had heard the word indisposed quite a few times over the years and it had very rarely actually meant that. Especially given the people she tended to be looking for.

"My name is Arnora, I am looking for people to aid me. I was hoping I might speak to your captain but I am happy to wait until later. There are others I can talk to in the mean time. "

Arnora paused as if reconsidering something.

"I would however be interested to hear more about yourself and your travels in this or these worlds. I have not taken the time out so far to find out more about such things. I would be happy to buy you a drink or food if you require any. "

A pale face appeared at the window, and lingered for a minute or so before retreating behind the wall.

Kerry had little reason not to tell of the day's happenings and described with gusto the way they'd got from drunken revels to the pub.

The strange darkness loving people in the tunnels, the visit to the maproom, and the foiled ambush the Navy had attempte were all related. Kerry made sure to put in all the extra details that make a story; the bacon, the odd man calling himself Janitor and brave Magpie the cat...

She finished with her thoughts - it was a strange place they'd wound up, but certainly interesting.

And what's your business Miss? I'm sure you'll find none here as willing to take a challenge, or as likely to pull it off...

As the night drew on, Jennifer Jones moved around the edges of the room, trimming the candle wicks. She had no desire to hustle her guests on, especially when they showed such an appetite for roast boar. But she was thinking of how many people were now staying at the inn and that the family would need to be up bright an early tomorrow.

With a cautious glance at the bar she placed out a row of beer bottles on the gleaming surface of the bar top and added a fresh bottle of rum. If the priates continued drinking hopefully they would select the bottles laid ready rather than wrecking havoc behind the bar, and she could settle the bill with Magpie in the morning. He seemed like a gentleman, even if he was a pirate.

Arnora listened to the pirates tale with interest. It seemed that there were still many different places in this collection. The maproom especially sounded interesting, perhaps that would give her a further idea of who to talk to. The Janitor also sounded an interesting person.

In the mean time Arnora decided she had better rest. She had no requirement to but it would aid her thinking to have some time to herself. And Jones had very kindly prepared a room for her.

"Thankyou very much for your story and your time. My business - as you would call it is to do with the one of these collected lands I come from. If you are willing I would explain to you in the morning after we have all had some rest. I hope to see you tomorrow."

Arnora rose and headed over to the stairs. She smiled and bid Jennifer good night.

Shortly afterwards Jones and the Doctor came through the public bar and Jones stopped to smile at his wife.
"I think we can go to our rest now," he said. "If you're done in here."
"Yes," Jennifer nodded. "And I've left out some more beer for those sailors if they want to go on drinking.... and aired the other rooms upstairs."
"The Doctor here is taking the Blue room tonight," Jones told her. "And I've given Captain Magpie the key to the master bedroom."
"Well and good," Jennifer said, with a smile for the Doctor.

It wasn't until the doctor had smiled her own thanks and departed upstairs that she added to her husband:
"By the way, someone seems to have left an old pot and some chain over in the corner there."
"Strange," Jones glanced at where she indicated and shrugged. "Well, it's not as odd as some of the lost property we've had. I'll look it up in the store room in case whoever left it wants it back. It doesn't look much but it might be important to someone."
"Probably best," Jennifer agreed. "Well, I'll see you upstairs then."

She kissed her husband and followed the doctor up the stairway to the second floor.

Jones had left the room by the kitchen exit to tidy away the mysterious metal objects into the store rooms beyond.

Captain Magpie came into the public bar to find it only occupied by the pirates. Crossing to speak with a couple of his crew about his plans, he then left the room and proceeded upstairs.

[ooc note: Magpie's departure now ends this thread and OOC there will be a speed up in this forum to get to the next day. This should not be interpreted, unlike some of the other in-character timeslips, as a game event.]
