[OOC : From Map Room - Missed Again]
Dr Jewel emerged from the very corner of the mist and looked around with some satisfaction. She had finally arrived at the pub again. |

[OOC: entering from "Map Room: Missed Again"]
"So that way," Dr. Odom said, pointing a bit west of north, "is where we left this region and returned to the Museum, which is there." He consulted his map and pointed. "And we met when I stepped out of the Museum and into your region, which is back the way we came." He slipped the notebook back into his pocket. "But it used to be through there."
He spent a few seconds trying to make out any details through the eastern mist.
"I wonder if there's a pattern to the way the regions move, some sort of current that shifts them about in a predictable manner."
He looked back to see if their companions were following.
"But first, a chair and a pint." |

[OOC: Entering from Map Room...]
"Now Father, I'm not too sure that's a ... Well flay me! Hello Doctors!"
"It would appear that our companions cannot pass the mist by themselves," explained Michael, releasing a rather stunned looking Jake. "William, would you help me with the rest?" and with that he turned back into the mist.

"Curious. Only certain people can cross the boundaries between regions easily? I wonder if we would encounter similar difficulties crossing certain boundaries.
"Excuse me, Doctor."

| [ooc note: Normally diagonal movement, as occurs in this thread, is not permitted between patches. However for the duration of this interaction, in the interests of clarity, we will allow it rather than retconning it. However participants in this thread should be aware that rather than moving directly through the corner of the map room to Jones their passage through the mists must by necessity be taking them through the northeast tip of the Juniper School or southwest tip of the Academy.] |

[OOC: and back again]
"Well, that's something to puzzle through. I'd rather do it while we walk, though."
Dr. Odom shaded his eyes with his hand and studied a couple of buildings in the near distance. He was not very confident of his estimates of distance outdoors, but he figured they were between four hundred and a thousand yards away.
"Is that the public house? I didn't think we were this far south when we came in before." |

"I think it is." Dr Jewel replied, starting to lead the way. "Last time we arrived from the middle of the side instead of the bottom. If I remember correctly, the pub is roughly in the middle, so we have a short walk ahead of us."
She steered the party around the barns.
"So the pirates couldn't go through by themselves?" She looked at them curiously. "Why not? Could it be because they stayed in one place for too long?" |

"Um . . . that was kind of what I meant," Dr. Odom said, pointing to the larger barn. "But I guess it isn't. I didn't exactly take the time to look much when we last came through.
"Usually when I walk with this many people I do it sort of backwards, and I don't generally have to listen. I haven't really been able to pick up anything about how long they were there, have you? Considering our adventures since we met, I certainly hope, for both of our sakes, that time away or time spent in any one place has nothing to do with getting home. Can you imagine if we wound up somewhere where I got my foot caught in a crevice and you turned into a newt?" |

Dr Jewel glanced quickly at the barn whilst her brain tried to hide from thoughts about newts.
"Oh I see." She said. "I misunderstood. Sorry about that."
She glanced back at the pirates.
"I haven't really picked up much of their conversation myself." She said. "But I got the impression it was about a half-day or maybe a day. Which wouldn't be much more than the time I spent in the Museum when I was researching curses. So perhaps time in one place isn't the reason."
She glanced up ahead.
"If we're really lucky," her voice suggested that they were due for some luck, "maybe someone inside the pub can tell us why the pirates can't walk through mist alone." |

As they worked their way through the fields a flash of brass caught Dr. Odom's notice.
"Another arrow, do you think? Should we take a look or figure we've figured out how they work as best we can?" |

Dr Jewel nodded.
She marched up to it and examined the arrow.
"East." She said. "I would have expected southeast. Although, given we had to come through via Juniper School, perhaps the arrows never point diagonally?" |

Dr. Odom nodded. He studied the post and added, "Have you noticed they seem to suit their surroundings? It makes me wonder what the arrows in the places we left in a hurry look like."
He turned his attention back to their goal.
"Let's see if we can learn something of their provenance, such as who bolted such a thing, however useful, to my Museum." |

As the group stood by the signpost a group of people could be seen walking in their direction from the farm land to the west. A stoughtly built young man was crossing the field, accompanied by two young children. Behind them a donkey followed, large panniers secured to its side apparently containing vegetables.
Jack Jones raised his head as he saw the group on the road and his daughter grabbed his hand as she pointed. Her youthful voice carried clearly in the open air.
"Look, da, pirates!" |

Dr Jewel smiled as she heard the voice on the wind. Then she frowned as she considered how others might react to their party.
"It may be a pity that they are so recognisable." She said in a low voice to Dr Odom and Michael. "Never mind. We'll just have to deal with problems as they arise."
She turned back to their goal and focused on the front door of the inn.
"I think there is some sort of meeting taking place outside." Jewel said. "Do you recognise any of the people?" |

| "Was a meeting." Jewel added as the group separated and headed off in different directions. |
