Dr Jewel emerged from the pub door. Blinking a few times she let her eyes adjust to the blackness.
Great. She was feeling rather sorry for herself. Even ghosts have to wait for night vision.
The situation was not helped by the lack of light from anywhere but the pub behind her, but soon she she could see enough to move forwards. Movement appeared to be coming from the northeast so, after a deep and useless breath, she began to walk in that direction.
In her mind she told herself over and over that whatever was going on it could not hurt her. |

It's surprising how the innocent shapes of trees, barns and signposts can seem like black horrors when you're on your own and frightened.
It's also surprising how wrong a person can be.
Dr Jewel had barely made out more than the face there were black shapes moving in the north when she gained the opportunity to find out more about the inhabitants of this patch at close quarters as two Phantoms and a Wraith slid out of the night. Their misty forms undulated and coiled as they approached, limbs stretching and lengthening to form claws.
The didn't waste their time on threats, they didn't have to. Whether they considered Jewel an annoyance or a pleasant snack it was plain that their intentions were not friendly. |

Jewel stared, she took in the forms shaping out of mist, realised that perhaps there was something out here that might be a threat to a ghost.
Then she turned and bolted. Hoping she was going to make it back through the door before they reached her. |

'Can Ghosts hyperventilate?' Dr Jewel wondered in a panicked way as she ran in fear back towards the shape of the pub.
Behind her the Phantoms were thinking slowly, even as they came on with undulating speed. Their thoughts are not as humans understand thought but could be interpreted along the lines of:
* what is it? it's made of shadow stuff and yet it runs... *
The Wraith that accompanied them thought back at them the only answer it ever gave.
* PREY *
The monsters oiled closer as Dr Jewel hurled herself at the approaching wall of the pub.
ooc note: Jewel escapes unless she rolls a critical. ;) |

Fortunately the inn was not warded against friendly - or incompetent - ghosts. Dr Jewel disappeared through the wall, just as Phantom closest to her reached out with a long arm of mist.
