"Thank you." Jewel started to hunt through her shoulder bag. "My turn now."

After some searching she took out a pair of leather gloves. She wrapped the right one carefully around the tang and secured it, after another hunt in her bag, with a couple of pieces of wire. Then she put on the left one and picked the blade up. She weighed it carefully and then practised a couple of strokes.

"Well, I'm no expert." She said. "But if one of those things comes in, at least I'll have a chance to hurt them."

She looked from Dr Odom to Juniper.

"So what next? Do we wait?"

Juniper unholsterd her flail in readiness. "I have family outside," she said. "And perhaps you have friends. I think we should go..."

Dr Jewel nodded, weighed the sword again nervously.

"I'm ready then." She said. "Is the plan to find the others and bring them back here? Or are we trying to take a look at what opened the caves in the first place before we return?"

"I had rather figured I was staying behind to help the women and children since nobody else was. Who's left to let us out and back in if we go?" Dr. Odom's tone was not cowardly, despite his words. He held the mace in one hand and a wand in the other, more ready and as willing to go out as when Jones had stopped him.

"Jennifer and Doctor Domenova have prepared a surgery of healing in the kitchen," Juniper reminded him. "And Jessamin and Johnathan are with Harlequin in the Saloon Bar. They are my children, and capable of taking care of themselves as well as an older person but perhaps we should see what those others plan. It would not do for all of us to leave separately, each thinking that the others remain."

She walked towards the door to the saloon bar and opened it.
