From the mists to the east, an area experiencing considerable traffic today, came a young woman dressed in black. Although Drs Odom and Jewel together with Kalyndis and the enigmatic Kao Sheng were also crossing the same border, she did not see their group a mile further south.

It was unfortunate she didn't because they would have been able to tell her what had become of her horse. As Jane set herself a fast walking pace across the farmland of the patch, she gritted her teeth at the thought of how much faster she could cover the territory when riding.

"I'm getting another horse," she muttered to herself. "If i have to beg, borrow or steal it. Of even bloody well pay."

Eventually Jane's path brought her across the farmland and to the western veil of mist. Looking through it she was disturbed to see a vast black darkness and it took her even longer than normal to make the leap of faith that took her across the mist.
