OOC: Jack enters from Map Room: The Dark Lord Triumphant

Jack burst through the grey mist with the celerity of a tumbling snowflake, hampered only slightly by the frozen body of Ivor.

"Caught between a sorceress and a crazed warrior." he said to the statue. "Quite a predicament. Well, we do at least seem quite free from her enchantment. For the time being, anyway."

The colour, what little of it there was, had started to return to Ivor's cheeks. Soon the dog-man was as good as old, apart from the various torn limbs and the lack of stitching.

"Ivor!" he said. "Good to see you, boy. Sorry about that business with the sceptre, but I didn't want you falling apart before I could get you to Lilac. Speaking of which, we're still following him. Any chance of using that nose of yours to scent him out before I freeze you up again?"

Ivor's furry mouth opened, but no words came out. It appeared that his condition had worsened... or perhaps that abruptly freezing every organ in his body, and then rapidly thawing them again, had not improved his health.

Feebly he raised his arm and gestured. Then the arm fell off.

Lying on the ground, twitching slightly, it still pointed in the same direction. West.

A nearby child gaped at the pair, then ran to a bicycle, and pedalled off to one of the school outbuildings.

She returned a minute or two later, with a comforting-looking stocky woman, all neat brown curls, rosy cheeks and sensible shoes. She ran up to Ivor and Jack.

"Ah, the poor pet", she cooed over Ivor. "Have we had a nasty tumble? Let's see if we can patch this up."

And with a bag full of crepe bandages and a heart full of goodwill, she proceeded to attempt treatment that might normally take several hours, three accomplished surgeons with big bow ties and any amount of expensive equipment.

The nurse stood up, looking slightly anxiously at her patient.

As far as she was concerned, all was now mended, but her charge was still lying motionless on the floor.

She looked at Jack, then back to Ivor. Oh well. It takes all sorts, I suppose. And we certainly get all sorts around here.

"Would it be alright with you if I took him up to the san until he recovers? He'll be warmer there, and I can keep an eye on him."

Getting no dissent from Jack, and fearing for the wellbeing of her patient, the nurse bent and lifted Ivor into her arms.

"You're welcome to come along as well, if you wish, son" she said to Jack, before turning and walking towards the school. "You're looking quite chilly yourself."

As she walked, she spoke to Ivor. "We'll soon have you warm and comfortable, my dear. Tucked up in bed in the school's san, a nice mug of warm Ribena and a good long sleep, that's what you need. You'll be right as rain in a couple of days, you'll see."

The Prince of Ice had himself frozen with fear. Don't make any unnecessary movements. Stay inconspicuous. If the servants of the sorceress notice your true intentions, they'll capture you and take you to her. And then they might subject you to this... warm Ribena. Jack didn't know what the substance was, but it sounded to him like the most excruciating torture imaginable.

Ivor's arm had pointed west. If he could only find Lilac, they might be able to rescue the poor man.
Once the nurse and the young girl had left, Jack started across the landscape, now alone.[/i]

Stirring briefly, Ivor whimpered "Master?", before collapsing back into unconsciousness in the nurse's comforting arms. He felt like a puppy again...

Propped up on a pile of soft pillows, with crisp white sheets and a soft blanket, Ivor considered the Ribena. He tried a small bit, and decided it was rather sweet, but still drinkable. The reassuring presence of the nurse made him sure that it would do him no harm.

Once he had drained the mug, the nurse rearranged the pillows and encouraged him to lie down. He prodded and patted the bedding a little, curled up and gazed sleepily at her.

"Rest now, little one", she murmured, stroking his head gently.

With the nurse singing a gentle lullaby of quiet countryside, bubbling brooks and the flight of doves, Ivor lay in the bed feeling warmer, safer and better loved than he had done for some time. With a deep but contented sigh, he covered his face up with his forearm, and fell into a pleasant, restful sleep.

Still a little weak, and still not talking, Ivor was nonetheless in better shape that when he entered the school.

The nurse, though, felt that it would do him some good to have some fresh air and some gentle exercise.

"Tell me, do you like working with animals? The students always need help on the farm looking after the animals. Perhaps you would like to spend an hour or two there this afternoon?"

Ivor sat up and nodded. He was fond of animals.
