In the vehicle bay, Doctor Brainstorm was loading a jeep with as much haste as he could manage.

"Is he still out there?" he asked the air.

"Yes, but he appears to be leaving," replied Sakura, her voice apparently coming from his watch. "You may not have much time."

"I just need another minute..."

With some effort, he hauled a couple of boxes into the back of the jeep. It was almost mundane by comparison to many of the Bunker's vehicles, but it still had two fairly large and bulky equipment pods built into the bed and an unreasonable number of LCD displays and keypads mounted onto the dashboard. It also, Brainstorm observed, now featured a large ginger cat on the passenger seat.

"This really isn't the best time," he said.

Fermion looked at him. I think it is.

"I guess I can't stop you from coming, but you probably won't enjoy it. It might be dangerous, too. Are you really sure?"

Of course. He jumped back into the bed of the jeep and sat there patiently.

"Well, it's up to you," Brainstorm said as he got in. He started the engine, pressed a couple of keys on one of the keypads, and observed the map that appeared on the corresponding screen.

"Sakura? I'm resetting the INS here, can you show me where the Janitor is?"

"Of course." A small, moving dot appeared on the map.

"Thanks. Open the doors, please."

"Doors opening. Good luck..."

"You too," replied Doctor Brainstorm.

Outside, the famously heavy titanium doors of the bunker opened, and a rugged-looking black jeep drove out. The doors closed behind it, and the vehicle drove on across the wilderness until it came into sight of a man on foot wearing grey protective clothing...

Doctor Brainstorm slowed as he came into what seemed like shouting distance.

"Hey! Erm, hello? Mister Janitor?"

The man in grey stopped and turned. He nodded to the approaching Doctor, and started walking back towards him.

Now that the Janitor was approaching, Brainstorm stopped his jeep.

"Hi. Thanks for stopping, I don't mean to hold you up or anything, but I don't suppose you can tell me what's going on?"

"Erm, well, you seem to have been added back into the patchwork."

"Since you've been gone, I've been adding devices like this one to the patchwork to aid navigation."

"Now you're back I thought I'd better add one here. It points to the map room you see."

"Ah, right, thanks... I was kind of hoping that you might know why I was back, but I don't doubt that things will become clearer. If you don't mind me asking, what's the map room?"

"Oh yes, I suppose that was after you left. The map room gives a representation of the current configuration of the patchwork, as well as some other functions. It's supposed to aid in navigation."

"I see," said Brainstorm thoughtfully. "Thanks, I might check that out."

He hesitated for a moment. It probably couldn't do any harm...

"Can I offer you a ride anywhere?"

"Well, I'm quite happy to walk, but if you are going that way I wouldn't mind a lift to the map room, which is a couple of patches to the west."

"If you are looking for Jones', you'll find his establishment to the north and west of the map room."

"Sure, jump in," replied Brainstorm. He looked back briefly at Fermion, who looked back briefly.

Okay, whatever.

"Sakura, you got that?"

"I got that," replied Sakura through Brainstorm's watch. "I've updated the map."

"Thanks. If you hear anything from any of the others, can you keep me posted?"

"Certainly."

Doctor Brainstorm restarted the jeep, waited until the Janitor was ready, and drove towards the western mists...
