Ambassador Liason took one last look at the map, then departed at his usual brisk pace.

The pirates looked suspiciously at Dr Jewel. Then they looked at each other.
One glanced over his hand again and threw it down on the table.
"Back to the Capt'n." He said. "Maybe a journey'll bring better luck."
"Or a woman." Another one added.
Dr Jewel glanced sharply at him, but by then the small group were gathering up the cards and coins.
"Let's go then." She said, trying to sound authoritative. |

Dr Jewel's determination to start her journey again had helped Michael to feel a little happier about his situation and surroundings. Certainly he was now a little less dazed, and beginning to feel a certain suspension of disbelief. Nevertheless, pirates were pirates, no matter what dimension they came from, and pehaps some gentle supervision would be needed.
"Dr Jewel," said Michael, "why don't you show us the way? My new friends and I will follow you," he continued, smiling at the assembled pirates. "I am sure they have much to tell us about how they came to this spot." |

| "After you, Doctor. I'm afraid this is one of those situations in which I would be reduced to finding the mist and following it around to the flag. I'm hopelessly turned around." |

"North-west corner." Dr Jewel said, confidently.
She marched them past the various buildings. Listening to Father Michael's cheerful tones questioning the pirates in the background, she wondered what would happen once they reached the pub in question.
Would they find someone there they knew? Was there a possibility that they might create havoc?
She tried not to worry as there was nothing she could do about it now that she had made the offer to bring them along.
Instead she glanced at the various buildings, both large and small, as they walked past them. The purpose of the map room was, at least in part, clear enough. However, she wondered how the other machinery worked. If it worked.
Could this place be the key to the patches?
It was a pity that there was no-one to ask.
In no time at all, two walls of mist loomed. The western wall still had glimpses of English countryside showing through. The northern wall looked rather less inviting. Jewel quickly consulted the sketch in her notebook and decided that the icon was strange enough to warrant giving it a wide berth for the moment.
"We want to go through the corner." Jewel turned to the others. "To get to the opposite corner of the pub patch."
She marched straight through.

Michael and the pirates made to follow Drs Jewel and Odom, but the moment the group touched the mist, there was a series of exclamations.
"I'm stuck!" "This ain't mist, it's effin' treacle!" and so on. Michael turned to see the pirates evidently unable to continue. He knew that he would have no problem continuing - he could see the vague shapes of the two Doctors ahead - but he felt he ought to turn back. He found a huddle of disgruntled pirates.
"No way we're gettin' to no pub that way is there?" seemed to be the common sentiment among them.
"I don't understand it any more than you do," said Michael, but there has to be some sort of explanation. Dr Odom and Dr Jewel can get through the mist, and so can I. Perhaps all it takes is willpower. Jake," he said to the nearest of the pirates, "grab hold of my arm. We'll try it together. The rest of you, wait here!"

| [ooc note: Normally diagonal movement, as occurs in this thread, is not permitted between patches. However for the duration of this interaction, in the interests of clarity, we will allow it rather than retconning it. However participants in this thread should be aware that rather than moving directly through the corner of the map room to Jones their passage through the mists must by necessity be taking them through the northeast tip of the Juniper School or southwest tip of the Academy.] |

After a bit of trial-and-error, Dr. Odom and Father Michael determined that one pirate could not push or pull another through the mist but that the pirates could easily step through as long as Father Michael or Dr. Odom led them by the hand or steered them by the shoulder. Dr. Odom considered suggesting that they experiment with how many pirates they could drag back and forth through the mist at a time, but the thought of a place to sit and a wet glass overrode his curiosity.
