Larkin strode confidently through the mist into exactly what he was expecting. He had briefly passed through the map room once before and it had not changed since. From where Larkin was standing the place appeared to be deserted. Quickly scanning the area he was in he couldn't see much except for the buildings which wrecked his view.
Turning round he waited a few moments for the rest to catch up. |

| Karl entered a moment later. 'The others are just coming,' he said. |

After a moment the black shape of Buccaneer appeared, carrying Jane through the mists.
"This is the map room?" she asked, looking about. "It's more like a city." |

Not long after Jane's arrival, as they were wondering if Peri would be appearing after her, there was a noise somewhere in the distance that sounded like someone calling out. It came from the south, and looking in that direction they could make out a figure waving from one of the white buildings.
They couldn't see any features except for the fact the figure looked female, or could be assumed to be so from the mass of long red hair it possessed. |

| Peri appeared through the fog, brushing off clinging tendrils of it. As she approached the group she seemed slightly distracted, looking appraisingly at empty buildings about her and making "hmmm..." noises. She narrowly avoided walking into Buccaneer. "Oh, hello," she said. |

Nodding to the others as they came through Larkin turned and gestured out across the patch and said "How many rooms are there here? Its gonna take ages ter find the one we're lookin fer."
That was when the voice called over and Larkin said "Lets go ask her if shes seen a room with 8 onnit." He ran a quick hand through his hair and turned to where the call had come from and strolled off. His pace was now notably slower now that they had arrived at their destination. |

The rose maiden came down a wide set of stone stairs, half-dancing as she moved. Her rippling red hair hung well below her waist, swirling about her slender body like a cloak. Beneath it her only clothing was a grey silk shift with a ragged hem, it came high on her thighs, displaying shapely bare legs.
As she came towards them Jane started and tried to hide the motion by reaching to pat her horse.
"Greetings," the rose maiden called out in a voice of gentle sweetness as she approached. |

| Karl appraised the new figure for a moment. An admirable beauty, he thought. But he was as fired with automatic suspicion as he had been when they left the prior patch. He turned towards Larkin and Jane with a shrug, and a non - commital look. |

A massive figure clothed in black leather walked heavily down the stairs. A casual observer might have thought it human, but Larkin's keen eyes swiftly noted the pulsating bulges beneath the leather - evidence, he was sure, of a biology both alien and disgusting.
The iron mask concealing the creature's head tilted slightly forwards, exposing the visitors to the gaze of all three of its eyeholes.
The monster spoke in a disturbing monotone, empty of emotion.
"Greetings. I am... Lilac Warble."
There was a pause.
"Lilac... Tinfang... Warble." |

Larkins knife was out in a second. "I'm Larkin Quickgrip and I think that the more important question here is *what* are yer?"
It was safe to say that Larkin was very much disturbed by this sudden apparition before him. He also knew that odds are none of them could probably take the thing one on one in a fight. However he hoped that maybe if it got violent then he, Karl and Jane may be able to at least give it a run for its money.
Any of the group looking at him now would see that Larkins pose had very subtly shifted from his normal relaxed posture to a much more tense stance. |

The creature's voice had acquired a strange metallic rasp, but it was impossible to tell whether this indicated anger or distress.
"I am... a fairy. I dance through... the flowers. In springtime."
There was a brief silence and then, as if realising that more might be required, the thing continued.
"Would you like... a buttercup?" |

The red-headed girl looked puzzled at the tense attitude of the newcomers and in fact she could understand how her companion's stature concealed his gentle nature.
"He's my Godcousin," she explained gently. "And I am Rose Briar."
Turning as the silver unicorn trotted down the steps to join them she added. "And this is Karkadann. Our other companions Jack and Ivor have not yet caught up but we expect them shortly. Lilac had a nasty turn in the school and we left somewhat hastily."
She smiled at them all, clearly thinking that everything was now explained to their satisfication. Her eyes met those of the rider and she added.
"It's Jane, isn't it? How is your father and my friend Juniper?" After a moment she added: "And won't you introduce us to your friends?" |

"They're fine," Jane said in answer to the Rose Briar's question. "Getting lots of business. And Larkin you've just met, but the others are Karl and Peri."
Turning to Larkin and Karl she added in an aside:
"I do know her. She comes from this garden place and my sister-in-law comes from there too. She's alright, goes everywhere with that unicorn though so she's obviously um, an innocent if you see what I mean?"
Turning to look doubtfully at the dark shape standing next to the rose maiden, Jane added:
"But that thing, that I've never seen before. Did it it really just offer us a buttercup?" |

Larkin held his pose and said "That's yer godcousin?" He looked extremely doubtful that such a gigantic monstrosity could ever be such a beautiful womans relative, god or not.
Larkin nodded at Jane and said "Yes it did." he then looked at the floor which appeared to be devoid in the contexts of buttercups and confidently said "Go on then, give us a buttercup."
There was no way that Larkin was going to take the word of him alone, nor was he going to take anything less than 100% substantial probably written evidence given by the rather innocent looking person standing next to him. |
