[This thread split from "The End of a Quest"]
It took quite some time for the salvagers to drag their prizes back to the nearest processing node. After all, their legs were distributed most unfairly and some of them now had heads too big for their bodies.
Debriefing after the mission was confused and unhelpful.
"I have a superfluity of drills"
"I can't see"
"I have three communication coils"
"I have three communication coils"
"I have three communication coils"
"! sdrawkcab ni si niarb yM"
Alchemy is not an exact science. At its boundaries, it blends with magic and other, darker powers. It is best not to meddle with that which you do not understand, as the salvage mob were discovering to their cost.
Fortunately, all the relevant material had made its way back to the node. Now it was processing time ! |

After a relative short period, some semblance of order had been restored.
The large salvager with an impressive collection of drill bits summoned the others for debriefing.
That operation was not altogether successful. We lack the necessary equipment to deal with large threats to this site. Accordingly, we must begin construction of as big a trebuchet as possible.
This was met with a great deal of approval by the other salvagers. Not so much because they thought it would be useful as because it sounded like an awful lot of fun ! |

The moment finally arrived.
Mr Drills stood proudly by the completed trebuchet and the other salvagers (now somewhat increased in number) waited for the test firing.
Three... two... one... RELEASE !
The small brick selected for the honour of being hurled a really long way flew through the air. And so did something else.
Aieeeeee !
There was a brief moment of confusion, until Threecoils worked out what had happened.
It's Red Hose. He hadn't finished painting the warning sign on the sling arm.

It's Red Hose. He hadn't finished painting the warning sign on the sling arm.
The other Hosefaces blinked at each other in shock, then went scooting off towards the edge of the Patch.
Don't worry Red ! We'll rescue you !
Nobody noticed as the brick bounced neatly off the mist and Red Hose sailed straight through it. |

In response to the emergency, Royal, Peach and Aquamarine had all sprinted off as fast as they could towards the Patch boundary.
Seeing as they all had stumpy little legs and a tendency to waddle, their top speed was desperately slow. But eventually they got there.
