"I see.." the old woman nodded sagely. "It's prob'ly a mistical thing."
She mused for a moent and then beamed suddenly.
"Here's an idea... How about you cross me palm with silver and I'll tell your fortune." She paused. "Oh and by that I mean you gives me some silve - just so there's no mistake." |

Larkin grinned at the womans conclusion and said "Well yeah, it probably is." However when she talked about his fortune Larkin became a bit sceptic. He had never believed in luck or destiny, his old mate Davvo on the other hand carried no less than 10 good luck charms on him at all times.
On the other hand, Larkin guessed that in a universe which consisted of potentially millions of different universes and millions of different people anything was worth a try.
A thought suddenly occured to him however and he said "Ah well I would, but I'm absolutely skint yer see." Shrugging he added "I haven't got any copper or iron, nevamind silver." |

The old woman sighed, looking him up and down. "Well you has to give something," she said. "It's the rule."
Snapping her fingers she pointed at his clothes and suggested:
"How about a button then? Or a thimble. Or a watchchain?" |

Larkin thought for a second and said "Well there is this." Going into his pockets he pulled out the, now broken, mirror he had stolen off the bloke in the Slums what seemed like months ago.
Holding it out a little ceremoniously he said "Here yer go. Will this do?" a little hopefully. |

"It'll have to do, won't it?" the old woman said. Accepting the mirror, the tucked it into one of the bags of junk and turned to the thief. "Now for your fortune..."
She closed her eyes and began muttering some sort of mantra to herself. Larkin couldn't help noticing that one of her eyelids twitched, as if she was peeping to assess its affect on him.
"What does the future hold?" she intoned. "I see... I see... I see tea and sticky buns."
Her eyes snapped open and she beamed at him. "Now isn't that lovely? You couldn't ask for a better fortune than that." |

Larkin had been grinning slightly during the entire show and when the lady gave her final verdict he let out a short laugh.
"Now call me pox-ridden, but I wouldn't happen ter be havin tea an buns with you?" Larkin raised an eyebrow rather sceptically and grinned. |

The old woman grinned back roguishly and then jabbed her nose in the direction of the mist, taking hold of the handlebars of her trolley.
"I always said you were a bright lad," she told Larkin. "Now shall we see if that solved your little mistical problem?" |
