Abigail was sitting in the Studio, sketching. The Studio was her bedroom-cum-playroom-cum-studio, a large octagonal room full of the possessions of a ten year old who can have anything she wants. Toys were scattered on the floor in several corners, haphazard piles of books in others, and a huge climbing frame with swing and slide attachments sat in the centre of the room. The studio corner, where Abigail was sitting at her drawing board, was full of crumpled paper, paint pots spilling primary colours over the floor, and pencil sharpenings.
Abigail was drawing houses. Her project was a forbidding circular fortress of dark grey stone, but she crumpled it up and threw it on the floor, and then picked up another sheet. Her pencil moved quickly, filling in colours as it went along, and soon she was looking at a small, rose-covered cottage beside a church with a spire. She drew a smiling sun in the sky, and some fluffy clouds, and paused to look at it. After a moment, she scribbled all over the picture with thick black lines, and threw it down to join its predecessor.
"I'm bored!" she cried, jumped down off her stool, and went to sit on the swing. _________________ That's all folks! |

Abigail swung in a desultory manner for a few minutes, looking alternately thoughtful and cross, then at the highest point of swing, she jumped off and landed on her feet. She took a few steps to the side of the climbing frame, grasped a wooden handle in the floor, and lifted a trapdoor leading to a spiral staircase. Suddenly energetic, Abigail ran down the stairs, pausing at the bottom to press the big red button that raised the portcullis, and out into the mayhem of Toon Town. _________________ That's all folks! |

As she stepped out through the gatehouse of her fairytale castle, Abigail was nearly knocked over by a black and white cat, as big as she was, pelting past at top speed. Shortly behind the cat came a large brown dog, barking merrily. The cat ran up the drainpipe of a nearby house, and perched on the roof. The dog stopped, looked up at the cat, stood up on his hind legs and rubbed his front paws together in a purposeful manner, and strode off, muttering to himself.
On the other side of the square, four squirrels and three mice, wearing fake beards and large boots, marched past with pickaxes on their shoulders, singing a song about gold.
Abigail looked around, surveying her domain, and, just as the dog returned carrying a ladder, she marched off out of the town. _________________ That's all folks! |

As she walked down Main Street, Abigail plucked a shiny red apple from her pocket and polished it on her sleeve. She was about to take a bite, when a passing rabbit leapt at her, knocking the apple out of her hand and crying "No! It's poisoned! The wicked stepmother poisons red apples!"
She patted the rabbit on the head. "OK, I'll have a green one instead." She retrieved the apple from the ground, re-pocketed it, and took out a shiny green apple in its place. She held the apple up for the rabbit's inspection and he nodded, so she took a bite and resumed her walk.
This week, Toon Town was encircled by a wall, and two animated suits of armour guarded the gate.
"State your business!" one demanded as Abigail approached.
"Being Abigail," said Abigail.
"Pass, friend," said the suit of armour, and she followed the road out into the countryside, then stopped and sat cross-legged outside the walls. She took a sheet of paper and a pencil from a pocket and proceeded to draw. For some minutes she sat there, her tongue poking out of the side of her mouth, then she sat back, looked seriously at her drawing and nodded.
The piece of paper began to grow and become three dimensional. It grew four legs, a tail, and a head with an elongated muzzle and small pointed ears. The white paper became black, and a mane of black hair grew from the head.
Abigail smiled, climbed onto her horse, shouted "Giddyup", and galloped off over the gentle, symmetrical hills. _________________ That's all folks! |

Abigail rode her horse around for several hours, visiting the canyons where some of the Toons were busy setting complicated traps for each other, riding past the foot of the giant beanstalk, and passing a woodcutter's hut in a forest, with a wolf lurking outside.
At the top of a mountain, she reined in her horse, and looked to the north. The weather in Toon Town was always fair (apart from the odd extremely localised thunder storm, when required), but up ahead there was mist.
Abigail frowned at it, called "Giddyup", and rode towards it.
As she approached the mist, she slowed down and squinted, then pulled to a stop, and swung herself off the horse. What she could see through the mist didn't look at all Toony.
"Another world!" she exclaimed, and walked forwards.
