The 'Periphery' is a collective term for several patches that appear in the patchwork from time to time which are apparently completely uninhabited. The gods of the patchwork appear to use these patches to make reorganisation of the patchwork easier when patches arrive or depart, ensuring there are no gaps and that travellers are not left stranded.
