Hive

An exceptional noble, born with the ability to alter not just his offspring's essence, but his own. It is not presently known how this is possible. Hive is an adolescent noble, appearing to be about 17 in human age, with the dark skin and unblinking black eyes of his kind. He also wears the noble's heavy, colour shifting robes, although these have been altered to a more useful travellers form. He has the concealable fangs and spikes along his arms common to nobles, though neither are often seen.

Hive has somehow learned the English language through Anjé's essence (blood). This appears to include not just the words but also some context and turns-of-phrase, though his own speech tends to be simplistic if overly indirect.

History

Hive's first meeting with a patchwork traveller was with the mysterious Anjé with whom he travelled to Leviathan and met Progenitor Kulle. The three of them continued together planning to explore nearby patches but after the map changed they decided to head for Hub. There they parted company.

After a brief rest in Hub Hive altered his clothing, which now has a more arabic cut; consisting of a loose tunic and trousers, and a headcloth of the 'Lawrence of Arabia' style. Due to clever loops and twists, the entire outfit appears to be made from the same unbroken cloth.

Hive went on to Jonestown as an escort for Specks and met up with Kalyndis at the patch boundary. Upon crossing into the patch he became a vampire and joined up with other vampires in Jonestown before being rendered unconscious by Kirby during an assault on the pub.

During the clean-up following these events (and the Dungeon Crawl that preceded them), Hive was transported from the patch along with another sedated vampire in Sakura's CEV. The CEV then spent some time in San Pietro, where it appeared that Hive returned to normal. Removed from the vehicle Hive recovered, but displayed some residual connection to the vampire which he used to calm it. Thinking it best to separate them, Kalyndis offered to travel with Hive back to Spire, while the vampire remained imprisoned in San Pietro.
