Neverview Asylum
From PatchworkWiki
Geography
The primary feature of the patch is a large gothic masion with ultra modern extended wings. Inside it is a complete rabbit warren and hotpotch of old and new. Crumbling halls serving as common rooms lead into dim yet clinical modern corridors. The weather is always grey and usually raining with frequent storms. The borders of the Asylum which include some vast gardens are about 3 square miles and the whole facility is surrounded by that milky mist so evocative of the moorland. The Asylum is an obviously secure facility. The house and gardens are ringed by an ornately engraved high security wall which has CCTV cameras at regular intervals. On top of the wall is a spiked metal barricade which may even be electrified.
This is the Neverview Asylum originally located in the wilds of Dartmoor, in modern England. The facility is home to some 30 full time inmates, 10 wardens, 5 doctors (psychiatric and medical), 10 administrative staff and the governer (Dr Jessica Gravely).
Each secure wing houses a set of inmates living divided along gender lines on the bottom floor. The second floor has a series of treatment rooms including 3 solitary confinement cells (padded) and an electro-therapy room. The top floor of each wing is a medical hospital to securely treat any physical problems the inmates may have and to store and distribute he cocktails of drugs used to control the inmates' various conditions. Every inmate has there own room which is locked down at night.
The inside of the original building has been converted into accomodation for the 10 wardens, 5 doctors, 10 administrative staff and the governer (Dr Jessica Gravely). The main hall was converted into a common room and the old servants quarters and dining room are still used for preparing the meals of the inhabitants. Much of the gardens has been given over to growing food and the residents grow and prepare all the meals. There are a few areas strictly out of bounds for residents such as the treatment rooms (unless accompanied by a member of staff), the staff quarters and offices and the old wine cellars.
It is odd that the facility which must cost a great deal to maintain is home to so few "residents".
Inhabitants
Mab Feenan (Resident of the asylum) - Despite being a resident, Mab has somehow managed to recently depart the Asylum and has not been seen since.
Dr Jessica Gravely (Governor of the asylum) - Jessica is a lady approaching her mid 40s. She has brown hair tied in a bun which is starting to go grey around the temples. She wears strong prescription glasses and well tailored skirts with matching jackets. She has a stern manner and inquisitive mind often working long hours, late into the night. She rarely goes out into the grounds around the facility in fact she rarely leaves her office. She is an arch administrator and keen academic but not a very approachable manager. She has been at the Asylum for 15 years and Governor for the last 7.
Theo Bridgemore (Head Warden) - Theo is a large, broad but gentle man who genuinely wants to help the "residents" and lead his team well. However fair and open minded he tries to be though he always ends up favouring the wardens' views over those of the residents and in the past has allowed unfortunate incidents of bullying to occur unchecked.
James Garner (Resident of the Asylum) - James is in his late 50s with salt and pepper hair and a lopsided smile. He has only been at Neverview for 2 years (unlike many of the other inmates who are longer term inhabitants). He has violent, disturbed dreams and an increasing problem distinguishing between fantasy and reality. In the last few weeks his dreams have become waking dreams and his violent reactions have been visited on staff and other residents. He is currently confined to a solitary room until these episodes pass.
Harry Blint (Warden) - Harry is a tall, thin man but well muscled. The more lucid inhabitants of the Asylum have often speculated that his only interest in working as a warden at Neverview was to have a captive hall full of victims he could bully as he liked. He is mean and unpleasant and enjoys watching some of the more distressing but necessary shock therapies which are (rarely) employed by some of the doctors.
Ticket (Resident of the Asylum) - Ticket is a young women in her mid-twenties. She is nervous and often frightened seemingly as a result of her paranoid scizopherenia. The voices in her head will often interpret the most innocent events as death knells and much of her treatment is centered on keeping her calm and as stable as possible.
Dr Greg Caldicott (Resident Doctor) - One of the only trained medical doctors in the complex he specialises in neroscience and brain pharmacology. He is a good looking 35 year old man who to the surprise of all is single.
Jemima Granger (Warden) - At 24 Jemima is the youngest and most inexperienced of all the Wardens at Neverview. She is keen but prone to making mistakes because of her inexperience.
Jeanine Baxter (Resident of the Asylum) - Jeanine is 35 and has been at Neverview for 8 years. She has frizzy brown hair is cheerful and round faced. She is currently in the infirmary wing with an (as yet) unidentified illness.
