A patch is defined as a cube of ten square miles on each plane, bordered by thin walls of mist.
They appear to be a section of their originating world, 'patched' into the patchwork universe by arcane means. The physics and metaphysics of the originating world are maintained within the patch, as is the existing population.
Patch to patch travel is usually restricted to only one person from each patch.
The number of known patches increases as the patchwork develops. Periphery patches commonly lack inhabitants.
