Rag and Bone Shop
From PatchworkWiki
A ramshackle building with a crooked chimney at the centre of a warren of cobbled streets which has the look of a slum. Rude and ragged children play games in the alleyway outside the dingy entrance. A bow window with wavy glass gives a grimy view into the cluttered interior. Approaching from the back a rusted gate swinging on its hinges leads into a backyard similarly full of junk.
This pawnbrokers shop will buy anything for copper coins, sell anything for silver coins and is always ready to barter for the most unlikely objects. Although the cobwebbed shelves and dusty bric a brac may look unprepossessing there are bargains to be found here.
Geography
This warren of cobbled streets and gloomy alleys does not possess many street signs. However some have been mentioned. Yarrow's shop can be found on Any Old Iron Lane (sometimes referred to as a road or street), which is off Dilly Dally Alley.
Inhabitants
Although technically owned by Yarrow, known in this patch as "Mrs Y", the shop is staffed by three elderly people:
- Beespatch: A sharp faced old woman who regards herself as in charge during Yarrow's frequent absences. She is the most mobile of the old people, dividing her time between the living area in the back and the shop proper.
- Codswallop: A whey-faced old woman who wears a grimy lace bonnet. She is normally to be found seated behind the shop counter. Her conversation is a constant grumble of complaint.
- Stickleback: A hunch-backed old man with stick thin arms and legs. He shuffles around the shop floor, showing items with ponderous slowness to any customers who enter.
Outside the shop a gang of street urchins can often be found.
- Specks, a likely looking lad with a freckled face, was one of the leaders of this group. He was last seen leaving in the company of an assistant zookeeper.
- Molly, an eight year old moppet with a tangle of dirty brown hair, used to beg on Dilly Dally Alley. She was last seen leaving in the company of a chivalric knight.
- Timmy, a ten year old boy with a club foot who supports himself on a rudimentary crutch, is currently occupying this prime begging spot.
- Art, a eleven-year-old with a gap-toothed grin.
- Sally, a fifteen-year old dressed neatly if poorly in a brown dress, darned wool stockings and clogs. Her hair is plaited and pinned to her head.
