The patchwork universe has a number of different ways to travel. These are as follows:
- Walking - reliable but slow, it will take a couple of hours to cross each patch
- Horse-drawn wagon - medium speed but cumbersome, you may attract the notice of bandits
- Horse - fast but obvious, you may attract the notice of horse thieves
- Cars and trucks - fast but unreliable, if you run out of gas, you're stuck
- Plane or zeppelin - fast but very obvious, you may attract unwelcome attention, especially from those who dislike aircraft
- Magic - fast but very obvious, you may attract unwelcome attention, especially from those who dislike magic
- Underground train - extremely fast but not always possible, some patches have stations from which you can travel to the other side of the universe
- Yggdrasil roots - instantaneous but disconcerting, three patches are connected to the roots of the world ash tree, these can be used to travel to the tree or the other roots.
On balance, unless you're lucky enough to be near a train station, the best way to travel is probably by horse. These can be hired from Jonestown, or 'borrowed' from various other patches.
