Contents

Scenic Views

Areas of outstanding natural beauty, scientific interest, rare geological and biological specimens - the patchwork has it all.

Please note that Sandcastle is not currently accesible. This patch, previously a beach with a castle made entirely of sand, was developed by Abigail with a view to interest for children. When it reappears it may be reclassed as an entertainment venue.

Kerya

This rarely visited tropical forest area is home to a race of alien beings known as lizard people. Under the care of the dragon Kalyndis they have florished here, preserving their own culture and society and unaware of the patchwork or beyond their simple village home and the surrounding jungle. This primitive society will provide hours of fascinating study for sociologists. However, zookeepers would be wise not to offend the powerful guardian of these simple people.

Peaceful Sky

Not since the Endless Blue has an area of such serene beauty been known to the patchwork. This patch is not recommended for agoraphobics.

Village of Wu Whei

This peaceful village nestles on the slope of a mysterious mountain that is both smaller and larger than it appears. Few have made the pilgrimage to Wu Whei or spoken with its eloquent and yet evasive inhabitants. However, to discerning visitors Wu Whei is a jewel waiting to be discovered within the humble clay of this unassuming setting.

Stately Homes

The aristocracy of the patchwork universe are no mere dilettantes. Whether they spend their time exploring like the intrepid Lady Violetta, socialising like the personable Lord Doomshadow or entertaining like the Baron of Zaritza, their homes are fascinating both for their historical associations and their contemporary collections.

Regretably both Aldersley Manor, gracious manor house of the Kingsley family, and the Mausoleum of Dreadful Night, ancestral home of the Doomshadow family, are currently closed to private and visitors and tour groups alike. Visitors to the Black Mansion in Hub are advised that this is a private residence and not open to the public.

Neverview Asylum

This substantial house is operated by a private foundation and serves as an asylum for those with unusual maladies. Tours only by arrangement with the Warden.

Culture

Cultural centres are increasing in the patchwork, of these the new Patchwork Sympoisum promises to be an exciting initiative. Meanwhile don't miss our other recommendations for the intelligent and educated patchwork traveller. Note that not all these attractions are recommended for children, please consult the entertainment pages of this guide for more suitable venues.

Hub

Hub is a city on the grow. Whether you're strolling down the wide boulevards, admiring the grand architecture and spotless cleanliness of this impressive city, you may wonder how much it costs to rent one of these fine edifices. The answer is nothing! Anyone is welcome to start up a new enterprise or to use a building as a second or even a third home. Visitors to this mighty city should be sure not to miss the central plaza, a popular area for patchwork travellers to congregate. Stop in at Swashbucks coffee shop for a drink, add your messages to the notices posted around the plaza, and don't forget to stop in at the Tourist Information Centre. Maps and Travel Guides can always be obtained here. If you've got one already, why not purchase another for a friend? Children should look out for Abigail's House of Fun, a short walk from the central plaza.

The Museum

This ultimate example of the genre is ably managed by Dr Odom, the head curator, possesses a fascinating history and culture of its own. Admission is 10¢ for adults and children over the age of twelve, 5¢ for students and children under twelve, 3¢ for school groups. There is no charge for teachers and babes in arms. Be sure to avial yourself of the exaustively trained guides.

Maypole Hill

Site of an intriguing archeological dig.

This patch doesn't have anything to do for children and Sir Waters lives there and he's not very nice. But Max on the dig site is very nice, and has a ghost buggy. ~ Reviewed by Abigail

Patchwork Symposium

This salon makes its home in Hub and was initiated by Valoel. Come to the Symposium to swap speculations about the people, places, origins and metaphysics of the patchwork.

Entertainment

Naturally travelling the patchwork universe is an entertainment and an education in itself. However, a certain entertainments stand out as worthy of note for the fun they provide for people of all ages.

Golf Course in Dunroamin

Please note that the golf course in the Dunroamin patch is currently unstaffed. However, passersby are not discouraged from availing themselves of the opportunity to play a few holes should they feel so inspired.

Empire City

It is a never-ending source of regret that the Zoo so capably managed by Trubshawe is no longer present in the patchwork. However, a smaller but fine menagerie can be found in Empire City along with other entertainment venues.

Patchwork Television

Stay tuned for more information about patchwork television, coming soon to a patch near you! This innovation is a joint project financed by the Rag and Bone Shop and artisans from the Tin Market.

Toon Town

This charming cartoon town changes to suit the whim of Abigail, but is always bursting with colour and life. In the past the treetop village has proved popular with inbitants but most recently transportation was the order of the day and the hustle and bustle of this animated patch has increaded tenfold.

Food and Drink

The cuisine of the patchwork universe is varied, although no establishment has yet taken advantage of the potential for fusion dishes. However a few favourites are highly spoken of including the green tea with yak butter obtainable from the Village of Wu Whei, the Ferrari Rozzers known to be a favourite of ambassador Liason and the unconsidered trifles favoured by Captain Magpie.

In addition to these the following fine dining establishments are recommended:

Jones' Public House

This family-run tavern can be found at the heart of the thriving village of Jonestown. In addition to a wide range of ales, wines and spirits there is a five star kitchen and the friendly staff are willing to serve breakfasts, lunches and dinners at any time of the day or night. Children are welcome in the garden, private parties may book the saloon bar, overnight accomodation and stabling also available. (Editor's note to the fourth edition: Jones' Public House is currently operating with a skeleton staff only and many services may not be available. We regret further information is not available at this time.)

Guiseppe's bar in San Pietro

This humble establishment in the heat of a quiet Mediterranean village offers simple fair but has proved propular with travellers from diverse locales. Be sure to try the Peroni beer.

Swashbucks Coffeehouse

A variety of beverages can be ordered from this piratically themed coffeehouse, located in the bustling plaza of Hub. Outside tables allow you to watch the world go by, inside entertainment is provided in the form of cryptic utterances by the Swashbucks parrots. Make sure to try Magpie's Special. Valued customers have occasionally rented rooms in the upper floors of this quaint establishment.

Shopping

The shops of the patchwork universe range from specialist importers to street markets but there are always bargains to be found.

Empire City shops

Come to shining Empire City for the very best metropolitan shopping.

Rag and Bone Shop

This humble pawnbroker's shop has an all but bewildering array of antiques, ornaments and curios. The proprietor will buy anything for copper coins, sell anything for silver coins and is always ready to barter for the most unlikely objects. Although the cobwebbed shelves and dusty bric a brac may look unprepossessing there are bargains to be found here.

Tin Market

In the ruins of a once impressive city this market bustles with activity.

Transport

Thanks in part to to the recent engineering activity of the Gods and in part to certain innovative individuals, a number of transport there are now a number of transportation options available to travellers.

Unfortunately Jack Jones' Livery Stable and the boathouse in Jonestown are currently not operating due to staffing problems in that patch.

Station Network

This network of underground train stations was being built back during the Age of Reason. Since then more have been constructed by Janitorial work crews, occasionally to the surprise of the local inhabitants, but greatly facilitating travel, trade and cultural exchange. Currently stations are located in the Hub, Empire City, Maypole Hill and Toon Town. However, it is rumoured that the Janitor will construct further stations if asked.

The roots of Yggdrasil

This disconcerting form of transport is only recommended for heroes.

Terminus

Transport of many different kinds leaves constantly from Terminus for a variety of patchwork destinations. Go to Terminus today for all your transport needs. Terminus regrets that Divine patches may not always be accessible due to local regulations.

Religious Sites

Although the Gods of the quilt have patches of their own, not all of these can be counted as religious sites. However there are a few truly mystical places which cannot be easily understood, in addition to a few conventional religious structures.

Please note that both Quetz and Peaceful Sky should be approached in a reverent frame of mind. We regret we have no further information on these patches at this time.

The Church in San Pietro

This simple country church in San Pietro is in the care of Father Michael. Although this priest is known to have travelled widely in the patchwork, he makes his home in this village and cares for his small parish.

Heaven

Few have entered this mysterious patch, since it is believed that only those who have 'died' are capable of reaching this patch and that leaving again is no certainty. However, the real mystery is that those few who have visited Heaven and returned describe it as mundane. With its white walls, small circle of chairs, magazines and coffee maker it resembles nothing so much as a waiting room but waiting for what?

Yggdrasil

This giant Scandanavian ash is home to unusual birds and animals, including an eagle and squirrel of whom one would be wise to be wary. The mystical significance of this tree cannot be underestimated since its three roots maintain powerful connections to the wider patchwork, and the guardian of the tree is believed to be one of the mysterious beings known as the Gods of the quilt.

Health and Safety

The key to health and safety in the patchwork is preparedness. Although there are some dangers, with the correct precautions a traveller will be able to procede unmolested.

Freedom Fields

Travellers are advised to avoid this patch where a biotoxin has been recently released.

Jonestown

Travellers should not explore the caverns beneath Jonestown without taking precautions for their safety. Equipment can be obtained from any member of the Jones family or certain members of the Justice Squad for navigating this scenic but potentially perilous area.

Quetz

Much of the flora and fauna of Querz is poisonous. Travel through this patch is often difficult without the use of heavy machinery - not recommended as this may offend the inhabitants.

Rockery

This patch is full of lots of different sized rocks, but when we'd only been there about ten minutes, lots of the rocks starting attacking us and when they shattered on the ground they got super heated. Visitors beware! ~ Reviewed by Abigail of Toontown
